I'm sure there are some fans for many different reasons and good on them. As a frequent patron of all the local eateries I have to say, some of the other choices in town are much better for consistency, value and are much friendlier. I find this restaurant falls well-short of
wonderful food, great atmosphere and owner takes the time with customers and is very attentive
Fabulous! One of the few places where food and service meet to deliver unforgettable dining experience!
Service is friendly and the food is excellent. This is the way dinning should be!
Fabulous...Fabulous...Fabulous. The atmosphere is elegant and inviting, and the food was simply amazing!
Great food, great place, extremely friendly staff! One of the best family restaurant I have been to.
Service was extremely slow. We waited over an hour to get our food on a thursday night that was not even busy. When the food arrived one meal was hot while the other three meals were cold. The food is also somewhat overpriced. For the price that this guy charges you definitely feel that you have paid too much. The owner tries to visit every table and talk with you, yet he comes across as a pandering yes-man who will say anything that he thinks you want to hear. Overall a bad experience
I FEEL THIS RESTAURANT HAS A NICE ATMOSPHER EXCEPT IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE FOR THE FOOD THAT YOU GET. PEOPLE WILL PROBABLY GO THERE ONCE OR TWICE BUT IF THEY HAVE ALREADY VISITED IT THEY'LL PROBABLY CHOOSE ONE OF THE RESTAURANTS NEXT DOOR THAT IS A LITTLE CHEAPER.
THE SERVERS WHERE REALLY NICE AND THE MANAGER DOES A GREAT JOB GETTING AROUND ( THAT'S SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF RESTAURANTS DON'T DO ) AND ALTHOUGH THE COMMENT BELOWE MENTIONED THAT HE DOESN'T SOUND SINCER, I DISAGREE... HE PROBABLY DOESN'T APRECIATE ALL THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK THAT PEOPLE GIVE HIM WHEN IT'S PROBABLY NOT EVEN THINGS THAT HE CAN CONTROL.
GREAT RESTAURANT, JUST OVER PRICED =( SORRY
It's my favourite local place to eat. Excellent food and quality ingredients. A pretty decent wine list as well. The outdoor patio is wondeful in the summer.
Cannot believe they are still open. Overpriced, average service and ok food. Atmosphere sucks, where is the old Southside Grill, we really miss it
Service was way too fast! Don't know if they were rushing us out for the next seating, it will be awhile before we go there again. I would much rather spend the money and go downtown. The food was good but not great.
RICH PRICES/POOR ATTITUDE
When I pointed out to the owner the misspelling of the Italian word
The food is always consistantly grest. I have eaten there more than 15 times and everything is always fresh and perfect. Keep up the good work Roland..!!!
Have eaten here about 8-10 times and have always enjoyed it. Despite what some say, prices are quite reasonable - especially when compared to a similiar meal downtown. Very few restaurants are perfect, so don't be scared away by a few bad apples.
When in Tsawwassen, this is as good as it gets and we will certainly keep going back...
I guess they aren't real Italians, because if they were, they would know that in Italian it is spelled
Amazing food, always fresh and delicious..I highly recommend the Tuscan Chicken..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I have been to this restaurant at least 20 times. It is fabulous! The food is consistently good. The owner and head chef Roland is a very nice fellow but quiet and unassuming. He does get around the restaurant quite a bit to greet and chat and because he is the quiet type you may be mistaking that for something else. He should be a yes man to his customers because that is his job to please those who pay the bills. The odd time the service as been slow but generally bang on professional for a good quality restaurant. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality and sometimes we go and sit at the bar and share a salad and each have a pasta and it's just a nice place to enjoy a good pasta on weekday evening. My husband often takes clients there. Some of his clients are used to eating around the world and rate this one as very good indeed. Sure you could go next door but then you would be eating good Greek food (and not totally inexpensive) or the only good thing at the other Italian restaurant next door is there pizza. Everything else there is somewhat tasteless and seems as though it was mostly frozen stuff heated up by young kids in the kitchen.
I baked a cake for my mother's birthday and delivered it to Illuminate about an hour before their reservation. I spoke to at least 3 people working regarding the cake and for which reservation it was for. They were very well informed of who was to get the cake. I spoke to my mother later on and Illuminate did not give her the cake. My father was there and knew I had given them a cake and told them this when they did not bring anything out and they said they were never given a cake. This restaurant is EXTREMELY small. How they did not figure out that the cake in their fridge was for my parents when directly asked about it is beyond me. Needless to say, my cake went to waste. The next day I went to illuminate to inquire about this and they said they were sorry, they forgot they had the cake. they offered me a gift certificate but i refused it. You can't make up for the effort and time I put into the cake and the element of surprise for my mother. Overall terrible service clearly.
The chef needs to change up the menu......it's been the same for too long. A dish or two of the month even !!! Living in a small residential area with only one upscale restaurant, the menu wears thin. Apart from the same old....the dishes I have ordered were delicious.
I love this restaurant. There are certainly less expensive restaurants in Tsawwassen, however, you are getting what you pay for there. This is truly fine dining and not at fine dining prices. Service has always been friendly and efficient and the food very evocative of great dining in Italy.
Roland - you clearly are not interested in your business.....just retire and let someone that wants to prepare and serve really good food take over.
We'e been going to Illuminate since it opened, half a dozen times a year or so. I thoroughly enjoy the place. Ive gone to most of the best fine dining restaurants in BC, and Illuminate is up there with the best in temrs of food quality, ambience and service. The only complaint I have is that, when I'm by myself for dinner and want to have a nice meal and watch the Canuck's game, there's no TV there in the regular season . Roland, how about a discreet 24" TV at the bar tuned into the game, low enough so that only bar patrons can see it? I know you have a cable connection from the playoffs. That way, I won't have to go elsewhere...
